The aim of the Branson Scholarship Program (BSP) is to develop Liberian entrepreneurs/small business owners that will act as a catalyst to spearhead the acceleration of a viable private sector-led economy in Liberia. The challenge of job creation and subsequent economic development can best be realized in an entrepreneurial environment that empowers a large proportion of the Liberian population. The overall goal of the program is to enable Liberian entrepreneurs to take their businesses to the next level of expansion, growth and success for the benefit of Liberians and the Liberian economy.
The BSP will select fifteen local Liberian entrepreneurs and business owners to attend (at no cost) a one-week foundation and one-week advanced business development training in South Africa in April and October, 2014 respectively; attend four (three-days) monthly business impact trainings, and four (one-day) business expert forums/seminar in Liberia between the months of May to September, 2014.
At the end of these hands-on development trainings in South African and Liberia, the participants will have the opportunity to pitch their businesses to local and international investors as well as financial institutions for potential access to finance.
Our focus in designing this program was providing a platform for existing small Liberian businesses to acquire advanced local and international best practices in business development that are required for higher level business growth and expansion. This will enable them to create more jobs, increase profitability and contribute to the growth of the national economy.
